Beth also downloaded from Tony Elischer's session (Mr. Elischer is managing director of THINK Strategy Solutions), a man who clearly has no time for the naysayers (I like him already!). My notes:
- Older people are becoming younger. Your mom is texting and using skype
- Don’t use the economy as an excuse. People are still spending.
- Loyalty is becoming a myth … people don’t necessarily want to feel like a member
- Donors aren’t stupid, loyal dogs … they aren’t in your club … they are active participants … they don’t want to be members
- People still spend on entertainment and have cool experiences … so how can we tap into that … even serious nonprofits can have fun and be fun
- “it’s time to break the rules” revolutionaries change the rules
- Protest (Olympics, China … created massive buzz) -->massive buzz
>>> Me: back to rock band & graffiti
>>> Michelle: almost a PSA approach to fundraising
- Singles ad: SBF searching for SM, ethnicity doesn’t matter, just keep me happy and … call this # (humane society)
>>> Me: couldn’t we do that??!! Surely a fun side isn't wholly elusive to us. People - all people - want to have fun and want to see that you aren't deadly serious all of the time. Right?
- These above tactics --> none of em are playing it safe! They are taking risks. And yet being totally relevant!
- Vid just words … super powerful --> The Girl Effect
What all this mean for us?
- Beth: “we’re saving lives” ... for eternity ... this matters; this is a mission and we need to be fired up about it, and we need to get others fired up with us
- "Pragmatic" outcomes: Less self-destructive behavior, success, families together
- Less crime – destroying others
- CAMPAIGN: “I have a brother (sister) in prison” --> what look like? What if we had to do this on the mega cheap?
>>> Commercial with all the diff faces and income levels and all diff nationalities … video … people repeating “I have a brother in prison”
>>> Reverse Graffiti: sandblast “I have a brother/sister in prison” + image
>>> Guys in orange jumpsuits walking through … incl kids? no? … downtown AND in mall areas with “I have a brother in prison” in back and on front {post discussion note: there was special energy around this idea}
+++ Carrying chains, shackles
+++ Food court in mall --> in regular clothes and then put on orange jumpsuits w “I have a bro / sis in prison”
+++ ... and then receive communion?!
>>> Images that portray we are all one family … progresses from people who appear in same family to those clearly not related …
>>> TV: at some point the brother in prison is Christ … “if you visit someone in prison you visit me”
